Your working life · 9 steps
Unemployment benefit is a right you claim, keep every month and defend: registration, benefit claim, monthly update, declared return to work, challenge if a decision is wrong. It's also a time to train or start your own business without losing your rights. Here is the order, with the page that handles each step.
Online, a single form serves as both registration and benefit claim. Don't wait for your documents: the registration date is what counts, and you must register no later than 12 months after the contract ends to receive benefit. The first interview takes place within 30 days.
Declare all your contracts, sick leave and training, then send the supporting documents requested. Benefit doesn't start the day after the contract: there's a 7-day waiting period, plus possible deferrals for paid leave and for payments above the legal minimum. Simulate the amount, duration and date of the first payment to check your notice of entitlement.
As soon as your rights are open, download the certificate from your France Travail account and send it to your former health insurer: it's up to you to prove you're receiving benefit. Let them know too when your benefit stops.
From the 28th to the 15th of the following month, confirm you're still looking for work and declare the month's hours and gross salary. A missed update ends your registration and blocks that month's benefit: register again straight away, your remaining rights aren't lost.
Stay registered and declare every return to work, even for a few hours: part of your benefit is added to your salary, without exceeding your former salary, and unpaid days push back the end of your rights. On a modest income, claim the prime d'activité too.
An up-to-date CV, readable by screening software and tailored to the ads that matter, plus your market value for negotiating: the “I'm looking for a job” guide sets out the order. Nego helps you organise your search, from follow-ups to comparing offers.
Your rights stay with you while unemployed, and France Travail can top up the funding. A career development adviser helps you choose for free; enrol only from your account on the official site, never through a link you've received. To change careers, your CV can be reworded around transferable skills.
Choose between keeping part of your benefit each month and the ARCE lump sum, and request the Acre from Urssaf within 60 days of starting your business: without it, no ARCE. Check your non-compete clause first; what follows is in the dedicated guide.
Refusal, calculation, removal from the register, overpayment: a written complaint to your agency, then the regional mediator, then the court. For a removal or an overpayment, you have 2 months from notification. After a resignation not recognised as legitimate, a review is possible after 121 days of unemployment.
Describe your situation: Nego tells you where to start, follows the checked steps of each procedure, does the calculations with the site's tools and drafts your letters. It does not replace the administration: each procedure is completed on the official service.
The amount depends on your daily reference wage, calculated on your gross salaries over the reference period, bonuses included, but without termination or leave payments. The site's unemployment simulator does the calculation gross and net; only France Travail's notice of entitlement is authoritative.
After any deferrals (paid leave, payments above the legal minimum), then the 7-day waiting period, and never before your registration date. A month's benefit is paid at the start of the following month, once your update is done.
You stop being registered and that month's benefit isn't paid until your situation is sorted out. Register again online straight away, then contact your adviser: your remaining rights aren't lost.
Yes: as long as you stay registered and declare your hours and gross salary every month, part of your benefit is added to your salary, without the total exceeding your former salary. Unpaid days push back the end of your rights.
Only if your resignation is recognised as legitimate, if it's part of a career-change project approved before you left, or after 121 days of unemployment, on review by France Travail's regional joint body. Meanwhile, stay registered and keep a record of your job search.
Yes, without losing your rights: either you keep part of your benefit each month, or you take a share of your rights as a lump sum with the ARCE. Either way, request the Acre from Urssaf within 60 days of starting your business.
