Estimate by the site's code from the unemployment insurance rules (mainland France). France Travail calculates your entitlement when you register, from your actual payslips.
The simulator follows the unemployment insurance rules in force (unedic.org). Gross salaries for the months worked, bonuses included and capped at 4 social security ceilings, are divided by the days in the period; days without a contract count for at most 70% of the days worked. That gives the daily reference wage.
The daily benefit comes from that wage, between the legal minimum and cap; the duration, from the period of employment multiplied by 0.75, capped by age and, after a rupture conventionnelle, by the rule of 1 September 2026. The net removes the supplementary pension contribution, CSG and CRDS. Everything is calculated by the site's code.
So that two people get the same figure from the same gross pay, the site always calculates from the same baseline situation. Each line can be changed in the calculator's options where it matters.
A correct calculation for a typical situation is not your payslip. Here is what the tool does not know, so that you read the result as a reliable order of magnitude, not a promise.
Benefit for 24 months worked without a break before age 36, after a dismissal, calculated by the site's code (CSG at the normal rate).

Maximum benefit duration before age 55, after a dismissal or the end of a fixed-term contract, and after a rupture conventionnelle (contract ended since 1 September 2026, unedic.org).

A rupture conventionnelle is negotiated: the floor of the rupture conventionnelle payout is a starting point. Every euro above the minimum delays your first unemployment payment, and the benefit duration is now shorter than after a dismissal: put a figure on both before signing. For what comes next, the CV analysis estimates your market value, and Nego helps you prepare the meeting.
Gross salaries over the reference period are divided by the number of days in that period: that is the daily reference wage. The daily benefit is the higher of two formulas, 40.4% of that wage plus €13, or 57%; at least €32, at most 75% of the daily wage. It is paid for 30 days each month. With €2,500 gross a month, that makes €1,405 gross, about €1,332 net (unedic.org).
As many days as your period of employment, multiplied by 0.75, at least 182 days. At most 548 days (18 months) before age 55, 685 days (22.5 months) at 55 and 56, 822 days (27 months) from 57 (unedic.org). You must have worked at least 6 months (5 for a first claim).
For a contract ended since 1 September 2026, the duration is capped at 456 days (15 months) before age 55 and 624 days (20.5 months) after. The amount does not change. From age 55, France Travail can extend it on request (unedic.org). Worth keeping in mind when negotiating the payout.
Only for a daily benefit above €93, before age 55: it falls by 30% from day 183, without going below €93 a day. This concerns former salaries of about €4,940 gross a month and above (unedic.org).
Three delays add up: a 7-day waiting period, a deferral for paid leave compensation (at most 30 days), and a deferral for payouts above the legal minimum (their amount divided by 111.8, at most 150 days, 75 for economic redundancy). Example: €10,000 negotiated on top of the minimum delays the first payment by 89 days (unedic.org).
Yes: the benefit is declared as income, and withholding tax applies to it. It also bears a supplementary pension contribution, CSG and CRDS, unless the benefit is low; the simulator deducts them to give the net amount.
A figure alone is not enough to negotiate. Upload your CV: the site estimates your market value from INSEE salary data, then helps you answer the salary expectations question.
