When your contract ends and you are entitled to unemployment benefit, you keep your company's health insurance and protection cover for up to 12 months. Letter template to the insurer to activate portability (in French): replace each part in square brackets, proofread, date and sign. The letter is in French because it goes to a French employer or administration.
Nego follows the checked steps on this page, does the calculations with the site's tools and drafts your letters. It does not replace the administration: the procedure is completed on the official service.
Nothing for you: according to France Travail, your former employer keeps paying contributions for you throughout portability. Only afterwards, with the individual loi Évin policy, do you pay for your cover, at a price capped for the first 3 years.
Yes: portability applies on the same terms to your dependants who were covered on the day your contract ended.
It stops if the new job ends your unemployment benefit. Tell the insurer as soon as your benefit stops; in principle, your new employer must give you access to its own health plan.
Not under portability, but no later than 2 months after your contract ends, the insurer must offer you individual continued cover, at your own cost, with no time limit, for health costs. You have 6 months after your contract ends to ask for it; the price is capped for the first 3 years.
Yes, as long as it is approved and gives you a right to unemployment benefit. Portability then lasts as long as your benefit, up to the length of your last contract and 12 months.
Rules checked on 27 October 2026 against the sources above. This page explains the procedure; it replaces neither the administration nor legal advice.
