Procedure · Health and sick leave
You have 24 hours to tell your employer, who then has 48 hours to report the accident to the CPAM. Here is the order of the steps, the accident form that lets you get treatment without paying upfront, the medical certificate, what the fund checks, and what to do if your employer raises doubts or reports nothing.

Letter template to report a workplace accident to your employer (in French): replace each part in square brackets, proofread, date and sign. The letter is in French because it goes to a French employer or administration.
Nego follows the checked steps on this page, does the calculations with the site's tools and drafts your letters. It does not replace the administration: the procedure is completed on the official service.
They must report it whatever they think about the causes: if they have doubts, all they can do is raise reasoned reservations. If they report nothing, report the accident yourself to your CPAM (or MSA) within 2 years. Failing to report, or reporting late, exposes the employer to a fine.
A workplace accident happens during or because of work, including on a break on site or on a work trip. A commuting accident happens between your home (or your usual lunch place) and work. The steps are the same (24 hours, medical certificate, 48-hour report, accident form) and Social Security pays out as it does for a workplace accident. But a commuting accident does not give the protection against dismissal that comes with workplace accidents, nor the doubled dismissal payment available in some cases; it does not affect the company's workplace accident contribution rate, and your employer's top-up only starts after 7 days off.
The fund pays daily benefit from the day after the accident: 60% of your daily reference wage up to day 28, then 80%, up to a ceiling. With at least 1 year's service, your employer tops it up to 90% of your gross pay, then two thirds (from the first day off, or after 7 days for a commuting accident). Only half of this benefit is taxable.
Throughout the incapacity, until the injury heals or stabilises (consolidation); if there are lasting effects, the fund sets a permanent incapacity rate that entitles you to a pension or a lump sum. For periods off work starting from 1 January 2027, payment will be limited to 4 years per period of incapacity (decree of 12 June 2026).
That is a relapse (rechute): get a medical certificate from your regular GP and send it to your fund. It sends a copy to your employer, who can comment on the link with the original accident, and gives you a new accident form.
Rules checked on 27 October 2026 against the sources above. This page explains the procedure; it replaces neither the administration nor legal advice.
