Procedure · Unemployment and France Travail
Working again does not mean losing your benefit: as long as you stay registered and declare everything, France Travail pays part of your ARE each month on top of your salary, without exceeding your former pay, and unpaid days push back the end of your entitlement. Here is how to declare it, what is calculated and what happens when the job ends.
Nego follows the checked steps on this page, does the calculations with the site's tools and drafts your letters. It does not replace the administration: the procedure is completed on the official service.
Each month, your monthly allowance minus 70% of your gross pay, converted into a number of benefit days rounded to the nearest whole number; pay plus benefit never exceeds your former gross monthly pay. The higher your pay, the fewer days are paid, but the unpaid days remain available to you later.
It is possible as long as you have entitlement left, whatever the number of hours and the type of contract. Since unpaid days push back the end of your benefit, working while claiming in practice extends your entitlement.
Yes, any work, employed or self-employed, whatever its length. An undeclared period does not count towards recharging your entitlement, and benefit paid in error must be repaid.
Send the employer certificate: the rest of your entitlement resumes, after a possible 7-day waiting period (applied once per 12-month period). If your entitlement has run out and you have worked at least 6 months, it is recharged with a new amount and a new duration.
The principle is similar but the rules differ: combining with self-employed income is limited to 60% of the entitlement left when you start, or you can take part of your entitlement as a lump sum with the ARCE. See the dedicated procedure on starting a business while unemployed.
Rules checked on 27 October 2026 against the sources above. This page explains the procedure; it replaces neither the administration nor legal advice.
