2026 scale on 2025 income, calculated by the site's code from the official rules (capped family quotient, decote, reductions and credits). Up to 10 dependent children.
The simulator applies the rules of the 2026 scale, the one for 2025 income (service-public.gouv.fr). For each filer, the 10% deduction (at least €509, at most €14,555) or actual expenses, then retirement savings plan contributions within their ceiling. The household's net taxable income is divided by the number of shares, the progressive scale is applied to one share, and the result is multiplied back.
The children's advantage is capped at €1,807 per half share (€4,262 for the first child's share of a single parent), then the decote eases small tax bills. Then come the donation reduction, which stops at zero, and tax credits (home help, childcare for children under 6), refunded if they exceed the tax. Everything is calculated by the site's code.
So that two people get the same figure from the same gross pay, the site always calculates from the same baseline situation. Each line can be changed in the calculator's options where it matters.
A correct calculation for a typical situation is not your payslip. Here is what the tool does not know, so that you read the result as a reliable order of magnitude, not a promise.

Married or in a civil partnership, you file a single return and the tax is calculated on two shares. Since 1 September 2025, withholding has been individualised by default: each pays according to their own income, and the total does not change. Example: €38,000 and €26,000 of salaries, no children, make €3,784 of tax for the household (2 shares), a household rate of 5.9%, and individualised rates of 7.4% and 3.8% (bofip.impots.gouv.fr).
To see what the tax leaves in your account each month, the net after tax calculation starts from your gross pay. High commuting costs? The mileage scale works out what you can deduct, the actual expenses or 10% comparison tells you which to choose, and the tax by salary pages detail the calculation for each salary. And for a question about your situation, ask Nego, the site's agent: it does the calculation with you.
Start from the household's net taxable income (salaries after the 10% deduction or actual expenses, plus other income), divide it by the number of shares, apply the progressive scale to one share, then multiply back by the number of shares. Then come the cap on the children's advantage, the decote for small tax bills, tax reductions and tax credits (service-public.gouv.fr). With €32,000 of net taxable salaries, single, the tax is €1,851.
A discount on small tax bills: €897 minus 45.25% of the gross tax for a single person (€1,483 for a couple), as long as the gross tax stays under €1,982 (€3,277 for a couple). Above that it disappears; below it, it can bring the tax down to zero (bofip.impots.gouv.fr).
By default, the tax office deducts 10% of your salaries for work expenses, at least €509 and at most €14,555 per person. If your real expenses (commuting, meals, home working, training) are higher, declare them as actual expenses: the tax goes down. The site's “actual expenses or 10%” comparison does the calculation with the mileage scale (impots.gouv.fr).
66% of the donation as a tax reduction, up to 20% of taxable income; 75% up to €2,000 for organisations helping people in need (meals, care, housing). Example: a €300 donation brings the tax from €1,851 down to €1,653. A reduction is not refunded: it stops at zero (service-public.gouv.fr).
A reduction (donations) lowers the tax without ever going below zero. A credit (home help, childcare) is refunded if it exceeds the tax: even if you pay no tax, you receive the difference. Home help gives 50% of the expenses, up to €12,000 plus €1,500 per dependent child, at most €15,000 (service-public.gouv.fr).
Yes: it is deducted from taxable income, within a ceiling of 10% of professional income (at least €4,637, at most €37,094 for 2025 contributions). The saving depends on your bracket: with €32,000 of salaries, paying in €2,000 brings the tax from €1,851 down to €1,532. The money stays locked until retirement, except in specified cases (impots.gouv.fr).
The one the tax office works out from your last return: the tax before reductions and credits, divided by your income. The simulator estimates it. For a couple, the rate has been individualised by default since 1 September 2025: each pays according to their own income, and the total does not change (bofip.impots.gouv.fr). The withholding tax guide explains how to change it.
