2025 income, 2026 scale, calculated by the site's code. With actual expenses, keep every receipt, and add to the salary any employer reimbursements (transport, allowances) covering those costs.
The simulator adds up your actual expenses for the year: the vehicle on the mileage scale over total kilometres (commute counted at 40 km at most without justification), tolls and parking, meals above the value of a meal at home, remote work at the flat rate and your other costs (impots.gouv.fr).
It compares them with the flat 10% deduction (between €509 and €14,555), then calculates the household tax with each, on the current scale, decote included: the tax difference is what the choice really earns you.
So that two people get the same figure from the same gross pay, the site always calculates from the same baseline situation. Each line can be changed in the calculator's options where it matters.
A correct calculation for a typical situation is not your payslip. Here is what the tool does not know, so that you read the result as a reliable order of magnitude, not a promise.
€30,000 of net taxable salaries, single, 5 hp car, 210 commuting days, no meals or other costs; the 10% deduction comes to €3,000. Calculated by the site's code.

Carry the total over to the income tax simulator to see the whole household calculation, and your new withholding rate. A question about your situation? Nego does the calculation with you.
By default, the tax office takes 10% off your salaries for work expenses, at least €509 and at most €14,555 per person (impots.gouv.fr). Actual expenses are only worth it if their total exceeds that deduction: add up commuting, meals, remote work and other costs, and compare. The choice is made again every year.
With €30,000 of net taxable salaries, a 5 hp car and 210 commuting days, commuting costs alone exceed the 10% from about 12 km one way. Meals and remote work lower that threshold; a higher salary raises it.
Yes, if you cannot go home for lunch. Without receipts, €5.45 per meal (the value of a meal eaten at home); with receipts, the price paid minus €5.45. In both cases, the employer's share of meal vouchers is subtracted (impots.gouv.fr).
If your employer pays you no allowance, you can deduct €2.70 per day of remote work, at most €626 a year, without receipts; or your exact costs if they are higher and justified (impots.gouv.fr).
Enter the total in box 1AK (filer 1) or 1BK (filer 2) and itemise it in the space provided in the online return. Add to your salaries the employer reimbursements covering those costs (transport bonus, sustainable mobility package, mileage allowances), and keep the receipts: the tax office can ask for them for three years.
The choice is individual: each filer keeps the 10% or switches to actual expenses, regardless of the other. The household tax is then calculated on the total.
A figure alone is not enough to negotiate. Upload your CV: the site estimates your market value from INSEE salary data, then helps you answer the salary expectations question.
