Your rate is recalculated every September from your latest return, so it lags behind your actual income. If your income falls or rises, if you live as a couple or if you do not want your employer to see your rate, you can change it online at any time, without waiting for your tax return.
Nego follows the checked steps on this page, does the calculations with the site's tools and drafts your letters. It does not replace the administration: the procedure is completed on the official service.
Every year the rate is recalculated from the spring tax return and applied from September. If your income has changed since then, update it under “Gérer mon prélèvement à la source”.
Only if the withholding recalculated from your estimated income is more than 5% below what you would pay without an adjustment. Otherwise the reduction is refused and the difference is settled after your tax return.
Until 31 December of the year you ask. On 1 January the rate from your latest return comes back; to keep a suitable rate, repeat the process from the end of November.
No. Since 1 September 2025, each of you has an individual rate by default based on your own income, without changing the couple's total tax. You can keep a shared household rate by choosing it under “Gérer mon prélèvement à la source” or in your tax return.
It is mainly useful to avoid revealing to your employer a high rate caused by other income. In most cases it is higher than your personalised rate; if it is lower, you must pay the difference each month. The site's withholding rate tool compares the two.
Rules checked on 27 October 2026 against the sources above. This page explains the procedure; it replaces neither the administration nor legal advice.
