Edit
Export your Canva CV as a PDF and say what you want to change: the AI rewrites the text in place; your colours, shapes and photo stay put.
After the analysis, your CV opens in “Same layout”: say what you want to change.
Canva keeps your CVs inside its editor; to edit them without a subscription or an app, the PDF is all you need. Upload it: the site reads it block of text by block (heading, bullet, contact line…), with the room available and the style of each. You write what you want to change, the AI sends back edits block by block, and the code rejects any figure or contact detail missing from your CV and your request. It then tries each edit in place, tightening the letter spacing if needed (up to 14%) then the size (up to 10%), and has the AI shorten whatever still does not fit.
Your browser reapplies the accepted edits to the original PDF: photo, shapes, colours and fonts stay where they are; the changes are highlighted, you touch up by hand, you fix the spacing with no AI. Whatever really does not fit triggers a rebuild in the same look.
It is the same feature as for any PDF CV; Canva CVs have their own pitfalls, described below.
What the site reads: blocks of text
After your request: rewritten in place
For the layout itself (margins, columns, readable fonts), the guide a readable CV layout sets out the rules; to fit on one page, one-page CV.
The model reads and writes; the code calculates and checks. No figure shown ever comes from a language model.
The PDF is read to handle the request and then forgotten; the edits are replayed in your browser, and only what you keep in your account is stored, encrypted. Full details in the privacy policy.
Three causes: the PDF is an image (flattened export or scan) with no text; it is protected; or its fonts cannot be reused to write new text. Export a standard PDF from Canva again, or use “My structure”, which redraws the CV.
Yes: it is written with the font embedded in your PDF, at the same size, tightened if needed (letter spacing up to 14%, size up to 10%). If the text still looks squeezed, the AI also prepares a version rebuilt in the same look, offered alongside: you choose the one you prefer.
Often not well: columns, icons and gauges throw the robot off. The analysis tells you criterion by criterion, and the “Canva CV and ATS robots” guide explains what to change without giving up your template.
No. The site does not connect to Canva: it works on the PDF you exported and gives you a new PDF. Your design stays as it is in your Canva account.
