French general scheme, rates as of 26 October 2026. Legal minimum calculated by the site and cross-checked with URSSAF's engine; net before income tax, hiring aid not counted.
The legal minimum is calculated by the site: the official grid gives, for each age band and each year of the contract, a share of the gross monthly SMIC (€1,867.02 since 1 June 2026). The 15-point top-up is added to that share; from age 21, the share applies to the higher of the SMIC and the collective-agreement minimum you enter. The result is cross-checked with the “minimum pay” rule of the modele-social engine, the one behind URSSAF's simulator, which rounds to the euro.
The net and the employer cost are then calculated by the engine for an apprenticeship contract: employee contributions exempt up to a share of the SMIC, no CSG or CRDS below it, reduced employer contributions. The professionalisation contract follows the same path with its own grid, by age and prior education, without the employee exemption specific to apprenticeships.
So that two people get the same figure from the same gross pay, the site always calculates from the same baseline situation. Each line can be changed in the calculator's options where it matters.
A correct calculation for a typical situation is not your payslip. Here is what the tool does not know, so that you read the result as a reliable order of magnitude, not a promise.

The professionalisation contract has its own grid, by age and prior education (service-public.gouv.fr). From age 26, pay cannot be lower than the SMIC or than a share of the collective-agreement minimum: the tool uses the SMIC. The net is lower than for an apprenticeship with the same gross, because employee contributions apply as normal.

|---|---|---|
| Under 21 | 55.0% · €1,026.86 | 65.0% · €1,213.56 |

The grid is a floor: nothing stops the employer paying more, and many do for an apprentice with prior experience or a successful second year. Before raising it, look at the SMIC rules, and compare with an internship allowance: an apprenticeship contract pays far better and builds up rights. On the employer side, the employer cost tool shows what an ordinary employee costs, to measure the gap.
Because the site deducts a company health-cover share of €20 a month by default, as on all its tools. For an apprentice aged 18 to 20 in their first year, the minimum gross is €802.82 and the estimated net €783; with health cover set to zero, the net goes back up to €803, i.e. the gross, because employee contributions are exempt up to a large share of the SMIC.
Each year of the contract starts on the anniversary of its start date, not on 1 January or at the start of the school year. Enter the start date in the options and the tool derives the year. For an apprentice aged 18 to 20, moving from the first to the second year raises the minimum from €802.82 to €952.18 gross a month.
An apprentice whose contract lasts one year or less and prepares a qualification at the same level as one already held, in a related field. The share of the SMIC gains 15 points: for an apprentice aged 21 to 25 in their third year, it rises from 78.0% to 93.0%, i.e. €1,736.33 gross a month.
From age 21, the percentage applies to the higher of the SMIC and the minimum wage set by the collective agreement for the job. With a collective-agreement minimum of €2,000 a month, an apprentice aged 21 to 25 in their second year is entitled to €1,220.00 instead of €1,138.88 based on the SMIC. Find that minimum in your collective agreement, then enter it in the options.
Before aid, the monthly cost stays close to the gross: €838 for a gross of €802.82, because most employer contributions are reduced. Aid for hiring an apprentice, which depends on company size and contract date, is not quantified here: it can cover a large part of that cost in the first year.
